TO LORDS OF THE ADMIRALTY, CIMMERIA, HER MAJESTIES ROYAL MARINES
South
Georgia Isle, Falkland Islands, 25th January 2004.
My Lords,
Almighty God has blessed her Majesty's Arms in the late Battle, by a
great Victory over the Forces of the Enemy, who were assaulted on the
24th of January, on the shores of South Georgia Isle. The Enemy was
heavily entrenched in a strong Line of Battle for defending the
designated landing points that we were ordered to overcome, flanked by
numerous Gun-boats, Armored vehicles, and a Battery of Guns and Mortars
on an Island in their Van; but nothing could withstand the Squadron your
Lordships did me the honour to place under my command. Their high state of
discipline is well known to you, and, together with their valour, and that
of the Officers and Men of every description, it was absolutely
irresistible. Could anything from my pen add to the character of the men, I
would write it with pleasure, but that is impossible. I have great pleasure
to inform my lords that all objectives were duly met and taken.
To
be noted for the dispatches; the actions of Corporal Aaron Horrocks, HMS
Royal Marines for taking personal initiative to strike out and locate and
secure Dr. Von Savage whence on Dog Island. PFC Ian Engle; who under my
orders, unflinching, carried said Doctor under the most appalling conditions
of war.
Noted with distinction, PFC Mark Gowan, HMS Royal Marines, for
his actions spearheading attacks, at my count, three different assaults of
heavily fortified enemy positions. Also of note, his almost single
handed effort to halt and detain the enemy advance during a crucial
period during the battle on Sunday. His actions are noted, as above and
beyond the call of duty, to him I must beg leave to refer you for every
information relative to this Victory.
I have the honour to be, my Lords,
your Lordship's most obedient Servant,
JOSEPH LIN, Sargent,
Commando Brigade, 42 Commando, Section 3 Her Majesties Royal Marines
ADDENDUM FROM HQ CIMMERIANS By order of Captain Kirk and authorized by
vote of the command staff, Cimmerian Valor patches were awarded to Corporal
Aaron Horrocks and PFC Mark Gowan.
